I will open rivers on the barren heights,and fountains in the middle of the valleys.I will turn the desert into a pool of water,and the dry land into flowing springs.

They did not ask, ‘Where is the LORDwho brought us up from the land of Egypt,who led us through the wilderness,through a land of deserts and pits,a land of drought and darkness,a land where no one travels and no one lives?’

Her cities have become a desolation,a dry and arid land,a land where no one lives,where no son of man passes through.

Gaunt from poverty and hunger,they gnawed the dry land,and the desolate wasteland by night.
